Purpose

The focus of this page is to give some information about why this blog exists.

My name is Glenn and my primary purpose in life is to be a full time Dad and Husband. I am fortunate enough to have just enough resources to make this my mission. I am even more fortunate that I have some time left over to dedicate to other things.

While I had a personal blog for many years, it was unfocused and not long before the creation of this blog I found myself unmotivated to post to it.  About this time, I heard a talk about what is important in blogging.  I don’t really remember who or where the talk came from but one thing from it stuck with me.  A blog should really be about a single passion or obsession and that single passion or obsession will be more focused and enjoyable to your target audience if it is the thing you think about most.  While my family is what I truly think about most, the next frequented thoughts are all around my hobby of Woodworking.

My hope with This Week in Wood is to post once or twice.  These posts will hopefully have a lot of pictures regarding my work, progress or just thoughts on the topics I progress through as I get better.  I’ve been working with wood off and on for about 10 years or so.  I do have some skill though I see many (too many) areas for improvement.  My shop is small and one of my goals is to move more towards hand tools though I expect to always have a place for machines.

Please note: I value the comments that I get (since I don’t get many). I try to catch them all and respond to them all, primary through the comments themselves (unless an email is requested). I value all opinions though please keep it polite even when you disagree as I consider this a family site than my boys might look at from time to time.
