Guitar Building – Binding Purfling Cleanup

Here is a shot of the guitar I’m building via the Woodcraft class:

I’ve done a lot of cleanup after taking off the tape (the clamp) from the binding and purfling glue up.  The glue used was still sticky to the touch even though the binding and purfling were solidly glued into place.  This was just a problem from the surface glue which perhaps shows that we used too much.  I’ve still got a bit more but here is a shot of the binding and purfling on the top near the sound hole:

The other bit that I needed to do this week was to attempt, one more time and hopefully a final time, to put a really interesting wood on the headstock.  I was a little worried about this as I’m not sure how the clamping went (I thought I saw gaps).  When the clamps were removed and the wood was trimmed to match the headstock shape and then a little sanding, it looked great.  I then had to ream out the holes for the hardware.  Here is a shot of how it turned out:

This weeks class may take the longest (according to Eli, our instructor) though perhaps that is because of all the scraping which I’m getting a head start on.  We also will be locating the bridge.  Our home work from this next class will be to finish the  body at least and maybe the neck.
