OK, maybe not for everyone but certainly for me.
As I mentioned in previous posts, I enrolled in some classes (3 in fact, 1 1-week long project to build a piece of furniture by hand, 1 2-day long project to build a wooden hand plane, 1 1-day long project to learn about sharpening). Well, I got a notice yesterday that the week long class has been cancelled because of lack of enrollement. It also had a working that the 2-day class may be cancelled for the same reason.
I was getting very excited about learning lots of new hand tool techniques. As a self taught woodworker, I know that I can teach myself given enough time but I figured (based on a similar experience with Guitar playing and lessons) that a teacher can show techniques and strategies that produce better results, give more flexibility, and/or make the project more efficient.
It’s not all over as there are other classes through the summer that may accomplish the same task. I’m going to call the studio and discuss it with them (hopefully today). I’m determined to try this out and of course, I’ll write about this experience when it happens.
